The Wooden Vine Wine Bar & Bistro serves up tasty seasonal and new American cuisine with careful attention to details and an amazing amount of creativity. Executive Chef Nicolas Daniels brings foods from around the world while utilizing ingredients from local farms and markets. Our menu consists of small composed plates which are a little more inspired than traditional tapas.
We have an amazing selection of wines from all over the world hand selected by Sommelier, Andrew Lundquist, a Johnson and Wales graduate and Court of Master Sommeliers trained. This award winning wine list features something for everyone, with over 30 wines by the glass, and over 350 to choose from on our bottle list.
We also feature some of the best beers in the city including local and craft beers, and are proud to introduce our mixed drinks as well as a variety of signature drinks which change seasonally.
Andrew Lundquist grew up in the small lake town of Rome City, IN. Always surrounded by beautiful farmland and some of the freshest foods, his interest for food had been sparked from an early age. It wasn’t until quite a few years later he enrolled into a culinary program in downtown Fort Wayne, IN. This program then began to place him into many culinary competitions throughout the nation. Upon winning Indiana’s state competition, he went on to place 11th in the National Culinary Competition in Kansas City, MO. This achievement brought him to Charlotte, NC to study Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management. While still in his studies he moved to Boston, MA where two of his family members truly introduced him to the world of wine. It was that moment sitting there with family, eating great food, and drinking great wine that he realized the path he wanted to travel.
After completing his culinary arts degree, he joined David Soper in the front of the house at the Wooden Vine Wine Bar here in Charlotte, NC. He completed his Court of Master level 1 shortly after his return. He was then accepted to attend a German Wine School in Koblenz, Germany. Overseas he met with many winemakers and other ambassadors from wine regions throughout Europe. He traveled from vineyard to winery all throughout Germany and France learning everything he could about growing grapes and making wine. It was on this trip that he was awarded his Level 3 Advanced WSET (Wine Spirit Education Trust).
Having worked on a farm in Indiana, he knows the amount of work that truly goes into producing a great meal or a great glass of wine. This makes for an amazing appreciation for what is in front of us. The wines here at the Wooden Vine showcase a wide variety of regions, those from big production to extremely small production. We have wines from every part of the world, truly showing what characteristics come from true regions and producers.
